Spring Initiates: Part One

Say hello to our spring initiates, who are officially part of Alpha Mu's sisterhood!

Name: Dani Major

Hometown: Platte City, Missouri

What is your major: Vocal Performance and Journalism

Where is your happy place and why?

My happy place is most certainly the stage. Even when I'm nervous out of my mind I am 110% happy when I am on a stage performing for other people.

What drew you to Theta?

What drew me to Theta was the amount of people I met my first semester that seemed to just absolutely love it. Theta upholds many values that I agree passionately with, and is full of women whose personalities I already naturally clicked with. I want to surround myself with people who make themselves, myself, and the world better; Theta is the perfect way to do just that!

Name: Megan Moore

Hometown: Bloomington, Illinois

What is your major: Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences

Why are you passionate about your major?

I am a Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences major. This is pretty much a long winded way of saying speech therapy. I really love working with kids and having the opportunity to help people feel more confident in their ability to communicate! I love health sciences, and this major allows me to incorporate science with my love for helping and caring about other people!

Where is your happy place and why?

My happy place has to be the beach! That sounds super basic, but it's where I feel most at peace. Sitting on the beach with a good book is one of the best ways to unwind in my opinion. Plus, the beach reminds me of memories of vacations I have taken with my best friends!

Name: Gabrielle Faletto

Hometown: I was born in Baltimore, Maryland and in 2005 (right as I was about to begin Kindergarten), my family and I moved to Elburn, Illinois and have lived there ever since.

Major: Journalism

If you could choose a song to describe your life, what would it be?

I would choose Rivers and Roads by The Head and the Heart. This song is my current anthem and it really hits home for me.

What is one time in your life when you felt like a leading woman?

This past semester, I became a content creator for an online college publication, the Odyssey! Several colleges across the U.S each have their own community. I started writing weekly content for the University of Missouri community this past October. Only 2 weeks after submitting content, I got offered a position as president. I now am proud to say that I am the president of the Mizzou Odyssey community. With almost 20 creators on our team, I send out motivation weekly emails, track submissions, attend weekly Skype calls with our New York Headquarters, outreach, interview, and onboard new members, along with submitting one piece of content per week. I am so proud to be a part of this amazing publication and feel so blessed to have this opportunity to lead fellow Mizzou students, who share my same passion.

Name: Hannah Holladay

Hometown: Overland Park, Kansas

Major: Journalism and Psychology

What drew you to Theta?

The authenticity. The women of Theta are so genuine, empowered, and kind, it was impossible not to fall in love with everything that Theta is. Every person I’ve met in this sisterhood so far is so unique in their own beautiful way, but they’re all similar because of the deep passion and love they have for one another and for everything they do. I’m amazed by how big these girls’ hearts are, and know they’re the kind of people I want to take on life with. Theta also had the cutest donut wall ever during recruitment. How can you say no to a donut wall?

Where is your happy place and why?

absolutely love my room! I think there’s something so special about having a space that’s entirely your own, and I love the creativity that goes into designing a room that says something about who you are (which for me looks like endless trips to HomeGoods and carefully eyeing Anthropologie throw pillows until they hit the sale rack). Coming to college, I was worried I wouldn’t feel at home in my dorm room, but I wouldn’t trade the cozy little space I have now for the world! From the times spent with friends snacking and watching tv on the bed, to late and stressful nights, to days cozied up with a book and a warm blanket, there’s nothing better than a room filled with sweet memories.

Name: Lily Gray

Hometown: Austin, Texas

Major: Animal Science with a Pre-Veterinary Track

When (or where) do you feel like your truest self?

I feel like my truest self around my family, especially my sister Macaella. We have always been really close, and I feel like I can tell her anything. It has been really difficult being so far away from her, but we still get to talk a lot and catch up.

If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose?

If I could have dinner with anyone, It would be Michelle Obama. I find her really inspiring, and it would be so cool to hear about her journey and how she got to where she is today.

Name: Mimi Kuroiwa (Center, holding the A).

Hometown: Sapporo, Japan

Major: Journalism

Where is your happy place and why? Chick-fil-A. I’m obsessed with the Waffle fries and Chick-fil-A sauce!!!!

Can you pinpoint a defining moment in your life?

When I decided to study abroad in an American high school in 7th grade. My junior year I spent here, and it was the best time of my life.
