Meet Sophie Smith: Our August Leading Woman

Name: Sophie Smith

Major: Marketing Minor: Cybersecurtiy

Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri

What are your career/life goals? I am hoping to work as the Chief Content Director at Goop Headquarters in Santa Monica, California.

What is your favorite part about Marketing? / Tell us about why you chose your major? I chose my major because I love people and I get to be creative and strategic while learning what drives a business.

Why did you decide to get involved in CAPA? I chose to apply for this intern abroad program known as CAPA which is through Mizzou and I got paired with a marketing company based in Limerick, Ireland and got to intern for them.

What is your favorite part about the internship? I got to converse and collaborate with people from across the world and make strong connections with my other interns. I also learned even more about marketing and made me excited to start my career.

What other organizations or hobbies are you passionate about? I am also a current yoga instructor at the Mizzou Rec and love taking classes or teaching whenever I can.

Have your experiences in Theta changed you? Absolutely. I have formed relationships like the ones I made in high school with girls that will never be broken and I know wherever I go there will most likely be a Theta to connect with which is very comforting.

What does Theta mean to you? Theta is about finding your people and having these people keep you grounded and continually aiding you in being your best.

Do you have any advice for underclassmen (or incoming freshmen)? If there is something you don’t like, change it and go with your gut. I transferred to Mizzou freshman year and trust me when I say it was the best decision I had ever made. Trust in your instincts.

Do you have a specific favorite Theta memory? Living in the four man with three girls that are still some of my closest friends today. And waking up for game days at the crack of dawn with them because we couldn’t wait to get outside and enjoy the day together.
