Name: Cailyn McCarthy

Theta pledge class: MC ‘14

When you graduated from Mizzou: December 2018

Major/Degree: Civil Engineering with a minor in German

Hometown: Chesterfield, Missouri

Where you live now: Salt Lake City, Utah

Where do you work? What have you been up to since graduation? For the last two years I have worked as a Project Engineer for Clayco onsite a construction project in State College, PA. In August I will be starting a new job as a Development Associate for the SouthWest Region for commercial real estate development firm CRG. I also met my fiancé in PA and moved with him to Utah for his grad program. We are getting married on July 18th!

What's your favorite thing about your job? My favorite part of construction and real estate development is getting to see a tangible result for all of your hard work when the project is finished and the public is using the building you built.

What's your favorite thing about the city you live in? I’m in awe of the access to amazing hiking in alpine-like canyons only 15-20 minutes from my apartment. I also can’t wait for world-class skiing in the winter.

What are you passionate about? Dance! I miss dancing on my high school dance team and for Theta in college. I’m also passionate about German language and culture. I lived in Germany as a child and studied there for a semester in college. My fiancé is fluent in German, so we have the language in common.

What do you do in your free time? Orangetheory, hiking, yoga, reading, traveling, exploring my new city.

Other future career/life goals: I want to start investing in real estate and renting property. I also want to get scuba certified and go diving!

What do you miss most about Mizzou? Spending time with friends 24-7. After living in Theta, I lived in an off campus house near downtown with 6 other Theta friends for junior and senior year. We were always running errands together, studying at our dining room table with one another, sharing meals, or lounging around the house chit chatting. We are all still very close.

What do you miss most about Theta?

I miss my pledge class. We are all so different but share so much love and respect for one another. I also miss dancing for Theta during RAMS Rock It, Homecoming, and Greek Week.

What is one thing you took away from being a part of Theta in college that has shaped you into the woman you are today? What impact has Theta left on you?

Be unapologetically ambitious and support other women doing the same.

Do you have a specific favorite Theta memory? So many late nights studying in the former “Study” (before it was remodeled) with a bunch of girls from MC '14 when we lived in house. Those nights got so weird and funny.
