FOUNDER'S DAY

 Each year, our chapter celebrates the day Kappa Alpha Theta was founded in January. It is a time for active members to connect with alumnae, reflect on their experience and celebrate what is to come. Check out this video from our 2022 celebration to hear some of our members' favorite parts of being a Theta.

 Kappa Alpha Theta has a rich history of Alumnae. As the first Greek-letter fraternity known among women, we also pride our alumnae with these “firsts”:

  • The first women admitted to Phi Beta Kappa were Thetas

  • The first women’s fraternity to establish a chapter in Canada was Kappa Alpha Theta

  • The first woman elected to the U.S Senate in her own right was a Theta.

SHERYL CROW

ALPHA MU - UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI

Sheryl Crow is a Grammy-award winning vocalist and songwriter. She also actively supports various causes including global warming and breast cancer research.* 

CLAIRE MCCASKILL

ALPHA MU - UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI

Missouri state senator since 2006; she was elected to be the first female senator for the state. She has also worked as Jackson County Prosecutor, as a representative for the state of Missouri, and as the Missouri State Auditor.

JEAN MCKENZIE

President of American Girl since 2013, McKenzie has worked at The Walt Disney Company, Gateway Learning Company and Mattel, Inc.*

LAURA BUSH

BETA SIGMA - SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY

Laura Bush - a teacher and a librarian - focused her energies as an advocate for children's literacy, teacher education, and early childhood preparation for learning. She launched the first National Book Festival in 2001. Also in 2001, Laura Bush became the first First Lady in history to record a full presidential radio address. 43rd First Lady of the United States.*

LYNNE V. CHENEY

BETA OMEGA - COLORADO COLLEGE

Cheney served as Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), 1986-1993, wrote several works on American culture and is the wife of former Vice-President of the United States Richard Cheney (2001-2009).*

BARBARA BUSH

EPSILON TAU - YALE UNIVERSITY

Co-founder and president of the Global Health Corp, an organization that awards year-long fellowships to pairs of young professionals from the U.S. and from around the world to work with organizations serving poor communities in East Africa and in the United States. Bush was recognized in Newsweek's 2013 Women in the World to Watch list.*

MELINDA GATES

BETA RHO - DUKE UNIVERSITY

Along with husband, Bill Gates, Melinda directs the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which focuses on world health issues and access to education and technology. She was named Time Magazine's 2005 Person of the Year along with her husband and the musician Bono.*

DYLAN LAUREN

BETA RHO - DUKE UNIVERSITY

Owner and creator of Dylan's Candy Bar, which claims to be the "largest candy store in the world." Daughter of American Fashion Designer Ralph Lauren.

TORY BURCH

BETA ETA - UNIV. OF PENNSYLVANIA

Known for her work in designing accessories, Tory Burch was recognized in 2008 as the Council of Fashion Designers of America Accessories Designer of the Year. In 2009, she established the Tory Burch Foundation that seeks to assist women in the U.S. with economic opportunities, offering financial services and micro-loans.*
