Kappa Alpha Theta is a sorority whose members are linked through a commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, and personal excellence. These shared values prepare our members for life by creating an enriching college experience. At the Alpha Mu chapter, we exemplify these values every day. Our members show these values in the classroom, on Mizzou’s campus, and in our community as scholars, leaders, and philanthropists.
Thetas are found all over campus in a variety of organizations. Our members are involved in organizations such as Tour Team, Summer Welcome, Student Ambassadors, Alumni Association Student Board, Student Ministries, along with many other groups in different academic disciplines. Our members lead committees for campus wide events such as Homecoming, Rockin’ Against Multiple Sclerosis, and Caring for Columbia. We are also very proud to have members annually recognized by the most prestigious groups on campus such as Mizzou ‘39 and Omicron Delta Kappa.
In the fall, Theta hosts an annual flag football tournament during our philanthropy week as well as a pancake late night dinner. In the spring, we host CASA Carnival, a carnival-themed event at our home. This past year, our chapter raised over $20,000 for CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. Theta’s support enables the Heart of Missouri CASA to train volunteer advocates to protect the best interest of the children in the foster-care system and ensure that they know there is always someone rooting for them. With the great passion and imagination of each of our members, we are excited to continue to support these organizations.
Besides our internal philanthropies, benefitting CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, we are the only Greek organization to be Partners in Education (PIE) with the Columbia Public School District. This is a mutually beneficial relationship between Thetas and the students at Russell Boulevard Elementary School. Through this partnership, our members have the opportunity to serve as classroom assistants. Many members also enjoy volunteering at Russell's annual festivals and at classroom parties. This is one way of many that we are able to have a positive, hands-on impact in our larger community.
The scholarship, leadership, and love that members develop while in Theta extend beyond our members’ college years; Theta is a home away from home that you will have forever. Theta serves as a place to grow into a woman of intellect and integrity and to form friendships that reach far beyond the walls of 603 Kentucky Boulevard.
