PHILANTHROPY

Kappa Alpha Theta’s philanthropies are Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. CASA is a special program that trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system. No matter the reason a child is undergoing the judicial process, a CASA is there to keep the child's best interest at the center of each case.  A CASA may be the only stable relationship that a child will have while experiencing a process designed for adults. The members of Kappa Alpha Theta are dedicated to support this program and provide as much as possible to our local Heart of Missouri CASA.

The Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation provides funds to international members of Kappa Alpha Theta so that members may reach their fullest potential. Each year, women are given the opportunity for scholarships and grants to further their education on their college campuses and through Kappa Alpha Theta.

During the spring 202 semester, Alpha Mu raised over $13,000 to be divided between Heart of Missouri CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.

FLAPJACKS AND QUARTERBACKS

Every fall semester, Theta holds Flapjacks and Quarterbacks to support Heart of Missouri CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. Flapjacks is a pancake brunch hosted at our own home. We welcome friends, family and alumnae to join us during this time and enjoy a serving of pancakes. Over 1,000 pancakes are made to go along with our famous topping bar. From Nutella to whipped cream, our guests are coming back for seconds in no time. Quarterbacks is the coordinating flag football tournament held on Stankowski Field, usually on the Saturday morning following Flapjacks. Organizations on campus and off campus form to compete in a friendly tournament. You can find our members on the sidelines, cheering the participants on. All funds raised benefit both Heart of Missouri CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.

CASA CARNIVAL

During the spring semester we hold two events called CASA Carnival and Kicks for CASA. CASA Carnival is a carnival-themed event, complete with games and, of course, carnival food. From hot dogs to Kona Ice to cotton candy and more, CASA Carnival makes for a fun and delicious evening. In addition to food, the Theta facility - where the event is held - can be found decked out with booths including face painting, ring toss, skeeball and more. Kicks for CASA is a soccer tournament held on Stankowski field. Members of the MU Campus and beyond are invited to form a team and compete for the championship title, all while supporting two wonderful causes - Heart of Missouri CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.
